June 21st, 2011 - Dr. Kornelsen presents at SOGC 67th Annual Clinical Meeting

Dr. Jude Kornelsen presented with collaborator and co-author Dawn Wilson during a panel for the International Indigenous Women’s Health Symposium, the first day of the meeting.  They presented on research conducted in Bella Bella British Columbia which lead to two publications (put links to publications or publications page) about the experiences of First Nations women birthing in and out of their communities.

June 20th, 2011 - Dr. Grzybowski presents at Canadian Perinatal Program Coalition & Canadian Perinatal Database

Dr. Stefan Grzybowski presented on a current research study being undertaken in collaboration with colleagues in Alberta and Nova Scotia looking at maternal and newborn outcomes from April 2003 – March 2008 provincially, and then comparing outcomes across jurisdictions.

May 31st – June 3rd, 2011  - Fieldwork

Dr. Stefan Grzybowski, Leslie Carty and Barbara Lai spent May 31st – June 3rd conducting research in Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Burns Lake and Hazelton looking at costs associated with different levels of maternity services.

May 16th – 17th, 2011 – Symposia

The Collaborative Primary (Rural) Maternity Care: Towards a Sustainable Model was co-hosted by The Centre for Rural Health Research, Perinatal Services BC and the Ministry of Health at the Empire Landmark Hotel.  Policy-makers, researchers and care providers from across the province gathered to find solutions to sustainable maternity care, focusing on rural on Monday and urban on Tuesday.

April 26th – 27th, 2011 – Symposia

The Centre for Rural Health Research with the Rural and Remote Midwifery Committee hosted the 3rd Invitational Rural Midwifery Workshop attended by 33 rural midwives, researchers, policy planners and decision makers, Ministry directors, MABC director and a UBC Midwifery researcher and Director. The symposia, which took place at the Sutton Place Hotel, addressed the gaps in research needed for sustainable rural midwifery practice.

April 14th – 16th, 2011 – Symposia

Dr. Jude Kornelsen and Dr. Karen Barlett hosted The Challenge of Low Prevalence Infectious Diseases: Towards an International Research Agenda at the Sutton Place Hotel. This symposium brought together international researchers, decision makers, practitioners and XX to discuss cryptoccacus gattii, Lyme disease and more rare infectious diseases.  On the 16th, several participants attended a fieldtrip to Rathtrevor park, the epi-centre of the c. gattii outbreak to take field samples and learn more about the research being conducted in BC.
